Eugene Kim, M.D.

Eugene Kim, MD, is a fellowship-trained hand and upper extremity surgeon at NY Partners Orthopedics. Dr. Kim specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the hand, wrist, forearm, and elbow, including problems such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, ganglion cysts, thumb carpometacarpal osteoarthritis, and distal radius fractures.

Dr. Kim earned his medical degree from Dell Medical School at the University of Texas at Austin, and concurrently completed an MBA at the McCombs School of Business — graduate training that informs his commitment to value-based, patient-centered care. His orthopedic surgery residency was completed at Boston University, where he received the Outstanding Chief Resident Research Award. Through his residency experience, he had the opportunity to take care of a diverse population with complex pathology and help them regain function. He then completed his hand and upper extremity surgery fellowship at New York University, where he trained in advanced techniques for microsurgical nerve repair, tendon and ligament reconstruction, and arthroscopic wrist surgery.

Dr. Kim has authored peer-reviewed publications on subjects including scapholunate ligament injury, distal biceps tendinopathy, and multicenter trauma outcomes, with work appearing in the Journal of Wrist Surgery, the Journal of Orthopaedic Trauma, and Archives of Orthopaedic and Trauma Surgery. He has presented original research at the annual meetings of the American Society for Surgery of the Hand (ASSH), the American Association for Hand Surgery (AAHS), and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS). During his residency he held a faculty appointment as Clinical Instructor in Orthopaedic Surgery at Boston University School of Medicine.

Dr. Kim’s clinical philosophy emphasizes the least invasive treatment that achieves a durable result. Many of the conditions he treats respond well to splinting, hand therapy, or corticosteroid injection when caught early, and Dr. Kim spends substantial time with each patient reviewing non-surgical options before considering operative treatment. When surgery is the right answer, he draws on advanced fellowship training to offer both open and minimally invasive approaches tailored to each patient’s anatomy, occupation, and goals. He holds active memberships in the American Society for Surgery of the Hand, the American Association for Hand Surgery, and the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons. Outside of medicine, Dr. Kim enjoys long- distance running, hiking, traveling, exploring restaurants, and spending time with his wife.
